Extract from The Irish Arts Review, Autumn Issue, 2024:
“The Wood for the Trees, is a monumental, immersive work comprising a series of suspended over-life-size sheets of Japanese paper. A canopy of fine branches from a leafless tree is dispersed across overlapping layers of floating paper. As the viewer circles the installation, near-imperceptible air movements stir the printed hangings.
Playing with the concept of parallax, the artist creates a sense of displacement with the unfixed hangings and varying lines of sight. Yet, despite any experience of dislocation, the aesthetic appeal, the beauty of the imagery and undulating tactility of the handmade paper beguile the viewer, sensation countering logic.
Releasing the work from the wall and frame suggests that the art is not followed by a full stop, but facilitates expansive ways of thinking, seeing and feeling.”
